SENIOR YEAR 2 2021 Assignments

Typically seniors create 2 studio artworks that carry meaning for them, many take these artworks to hang in college dorm rooms.  Map out your game plan:


But this year  I will assign just one studio artwork, in any form you choose, this can be a photographic series of your choosing, think deeply about what you want to do and use your journal to map out your intentions

Use the template provided to make sure that you have slides to cover all the criterion.

You will share this as a draft so I can give you feedback.

Most musuems in the city are open now, grab your journal and head to a museum with a classmate!

Please plan to visit a museum for this terms project. Take pictures and print out for your journal

Today we created 2 journal pages that express how you feel about the BLM movement.


We listened to sections of the NPR music selection from young black listeners in order to get into the creative spirit. This class was cut short because of the storm.

Exploring museums is a huge part of the IB visual arts program. Today you will explore the collections and current exhibitions and choose one to create a journal page that shows your sense of curiosity through further research.

Full credit for turning in today

Students will use the gallery guide during their visit.

Today we created -

----2 journal pages demonstrating our knowlege about the approach of using contrast to create impact.

We watched the video together and then created 2 journal pages.

One pages took notes from the video with a list of words that describe elements , and then we thought of contrasting words

Second page we created 4 boxes andtried out the techinique of playing with contrasting words.

Create a journal page showing your knowledge about the artist:

Make sure to:

1. Create a 3 inch thumb name of the Tree of Life (or you can print -cut and paste into your journal)

2. Layout should be clean and neat. Use a ruler to make light pencil lines to keep your writing neat.

3. Underline your resources

4. Write a formal analysis using three elements and 2 principles of art and design
(check out the videos below for a refresher)

5. Studio work- Now it is your turn to create your own " Tree of Life" Use whatever materials you like.

6. Plan out your project in your journal using a penicil of course.

7. Write about what your plan to express through your TREE OF LIFE.

8. Include your process for making your artwork.

9. Evalute what you like or what you would have changed .

Take a few virtual tours of museums from around the globe. The world is your oyster here......

Now choose a piece of art that has captured your interest.

Next step, recreate a sketch of the art with all the information labeled neatly underneath the artwork

Research the artist and more specificially the artists intentions ( MAKE SURE YOU DOCUMENT YOUR RESOURCES)

Make a heading ( artists intentions and process). How did they make the art , whay did they make it
Make a heading ( function and purpose ) does the art carrry culturual context?
Make a heading ( formal analysis) this means being specific about 2 elements and 3 principles
Make a heading ( evaluation) is the artist successful? wha does it remind you of?

Next step---------think for a while.......how can i make a piece of art that connects with this artist with limited supplies at home?

Since we do not have printers at home the challege will be to try to replicate the art work yourself. dDn't overly stress about this but try your best. One page per artist.

I’m going to have you create one journal page responding to the video-

Now for the fun part —-design your version of Venus from your own personal aesthetic

Try out one of the 2 scenerios to make this project super fun and very probable too!

Pretend that you are designing your first penthouse apartment in the sky and the time has come to add 5 pieces of artwork from the high quality American Art Review magazine. Have fun shopping for art that speaks to you personally. What are your first reactions? What is it about this piece that you want it, get curious with your own good taste.

Or

You just opened an art gallery on Newbury next to your beloved high school, the antique relic of the back bay, Snowden! You name your gallery after yourself of course.

( idea ….draw that gallery!)

Now you need to fill your gallery with art of course and have a fancy oepening to show off your curatorial expertise!

NOW…..

Choose 5 glorious art works that speak to your own personal aesthetic.

One page for each… your going to have five of your best journal pages!

Be careful cutting them out, I would recommmend slicing out the entire page first

Remember to leave the titles for referencing.

You will create 5 journal pages, choose three of those to do a formal art criticism using the
Guide to Critical Thinking.
This activity is designed to bolster your wrting skills and ability to use a template.

Due November 7th

For this assignment, you will use the handout in any fashion that you choose to create a minature timeline of the art movements and genres. You are free to use a two page spread, your choice.

You will create a 1 inch thumbnail (mini sketch) of an artwork that describes that particular period.

Use the posted movements posted on the wall above the paint supply table for good examples.

Be sure to give a time line under each image.

I would recommend using fine line markers and/or black ink.

Use the mac books for your research, tomorrow I will bring up some chrome books.
